Microsoft Pecos Campus (Project Kilby)
A hyperscale campus by Microsoft in Pecos, TX, on the ERCOT grid. Status: approved.
Grid and gas impact
At full buildout this campus is announced at 2,000 MW. After phasing to 2030 and weighting by build stage, the index expects about 780 MW running by 2030. That is about 0.9% of the ERCOT record peak of July 22, 2026 (91,089 MW).
At that level it would use about 5,125 GWh of electricity a year, roughly what 475,000 US homes use (EIA average of about 10,800 kWh per home), and add about 128.7 MMcf/d of natural gas burn on an average day, counting both on-site generation and the region's gas-fired power plants.
Its rating is driven by gas: most or all of its power comes from on-site or dedicated gas generation, so the strain falls on pipelines and local gas supply rather than the transmission grid. Rated 4 of 4 bolts. Outlined bolts mean the campus is approved, announced or proposed and may not be built as planned.
Latest update. Jul 2, 2026: 2 GW campus powered by a co-located Chevron gas plant under a 20-year PPA, off the grid at launch. Status raised from Announced; supply changed to on-site gas.
