Fermi America Project Matador (HyperGrid)
A developer campus by Fermi America in Amarillo (Carson County), TX, on the SPP grid. Status: under construction.
Grid and gas impact
At full buildout this campus is announced at 11,000 MW. After phasing to 2030 and weighting by build stage, the index expects about 2,640 MW running by 2030. That is about 4.7% of the SPP 2025 peak (56,000 MW).
At that level it would use about 17,345 GWh of electricity a year, roughly what 1,607,000 US homes use (EIA average of about 10,800 kWh per home), and add about 435.8 MMcf/d of natural gas burn on an average day, counting both on-site generation and the region's gas-fired power plants.
Its rating is driven by gas: most or all of its power comes from on-site or dedicated gas generation, so the strain falls on pipelines and local gas supply rather than the transmission grid. Rated 4 of 4 bolts. Solid bolts mean the campus is operating or under construction.
Latest update. TensorWave signed a binding 222 MW, $6.5B lease (Aug 2026); closing extended to Oct 31, 2026 pending a guaranty. First tenant had exited in Dec 2025.
Research note. dcmap cites 17,000 MW; Blackridge/Brightlio up to 11 GW; Electricchoice lists Phase 1 at a 2 GW target. Gas plus planned nuclear.
